When “off the peg” materials are not an option for an automotive supplier like Schürholz due to the technically sophisticated products they manufacture, a partner is needed who can provide a large stock of special automobile grade materials. For Schürholz, the focus of this cooperation lies on the lowest thickness tolerances, specially limited strengths and edges that can be rounded. All these material demands have been worked out and defined by Schürholz and EMW in numerous talks and trials over recent years to ensure the input material is of a consistently high quality.
Always being able to supply the customer with right material at the right time is only possible with over 130,000 tons of stocks specially geared to the needs of the automotive industry and a logistics concept specially devised together with the customer. For the production of slit strip and cut-to-size blanks, there are five slitting and multi-blanking lines available with thickness ranges of 0.4 to 4 millimetres and coil weights of up to 32 tons.
As a steel service centre, EMW is an independent company, which enables it to take advantage of the individual qualitative strengths of various steel manufacturers for its own and its customers’ benefit. Its function as an important link between steel manufacturers and processors goes hand in hand with a high degree of customer-oriented service. Our comprehensive package of industrial and automobile grades, combined with our sales network and a logistics system geared to customer needs are among the company’s outstanding features.
Being part of the family enterprise SCHÄFER WERKE creates synergies and efficiency benefits for customers. This owner-led group of companies, which besides the EMW Steel Service Centre, also includes SCHÄFER Perforated Metal, SCHÄFER Container Systems, SCHÄFER IT-Systems, SCHÄFER Industrial Solutions and SCHÄFER Interior Systems, is based on high-quality thin steel sheet and the processing of this material is one of the core competencies of the entire enterprise. Together with SSI SCHÄFER + and SCHÄFER Shop, they form the SCHÄFER Group.
Since it was founded in 1952, EMW has developed into one of the sector’s largest independent steel service centres and will deliver over 900,000 tons to its customers this year alone. To open up new fields of activity, EMW is investing in intralogistics. The construction of two new logistics halls with a total area of 12,000 m² will unlock further potential for increasing capacity, safety and speed. A completely new loading and unloading concept has been developed and additional storage capacities created. This investment represents a clear statement on the future and a commitment to the proven location in the local region. The different certifications in accordance with DIN ISO 9001:2008, ISO/TS 16949:2009 and ISO 14001:2004 provide the guarantee for EMW’s quality, process reliability and environmental protection.
The long-standing cooperation between EMW Steel Service Centre and Schürholz is more of trusting partnership than a conventional business relationship. Solutions for complex tasks are developed jointly and constructively, material specifications are evaluated and risks assessed at an early stage and then, with the help of the latest SAP and EDI systems, converted into just-in-time deliveries.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to all the staff at Schürholz for the partnership we have enjoyed for so many years and look forward to continuing it into the future.
